Headunit med 1GB minne innebygget i frontpanelet, slik at man kan ta det med inn, docke det i pc'en og sync'e :)

Sony came up with a novel use for an antitheft removable car stereo faceplate: MP3 storage. The Sony MEX-1GP stereo head unit does everything you would expect from a modern car stereo, such as play MP3 and WMA files off CD-R/RWs, but it also includes a gigabyte of storage in the removable faceplate. Hook the faceplate up to a PC via its USB connector, and you can drop your music on to it. Then take it out to the car, and you can navigate the stored files from the stereo head unit interface. One gigabyte is approximately 500 songs, so the unit will carry most people through a road trip. If other types of data can be loaded onto the faceplate, it should please any Johnny Mnemonic-style data smugglers.

...og om jeg ikke er blitt helt missinformert her...så kan det hende vi får se en europeisk utgave av denne også...etterhvert :)

Pioneer showed off its long-awaited AVIC-Z1 at CES. This double-DIN in-dash car stereo brings in all the functions we would expect to see in a top-of-the-line head unit, then goes a little further. Most of the interface is accessed through its 7-inch touch screen, although a few buttons on the bezel give quick access to volume control and the main menu. We expect such functions as Bluetooth cell phone integration, navigation, and media playback, which the AVIC-Z1 delivers. But its 30GB hard drive and Microsoft Windows Automotive operating system allow for refinement.

For example, navigation includes live traffic from XM. Trip routing is intelligently adaptive so that if you consistently choose a different route then it suggests, it will start routing to your preferred route. In some areas of the country, navigation includes lane information, letting you know specifically which lane to be in for the next turn. With 11 million points of interest, it's easy to find gas stations, restaurants, stores, and attractions. The AVIC-Z1 has text-to-speech voice guidance, letting it tell you the names of roads you need to look for. A voice-command system lets you tell it what address to route to or select a media source. Its Bluetooth integration copies the phone book from a paired phone, and the interface has a number pad for dialing, letting you keep your phone in a pocket. Better yet, phone numbers are included for its points of interest and can be dialed through the Bluetooth integration. The screen folds down, revealing a DVD/CD slot. The AVIC-Z1 can rip CDs to its hard drive and tag them from its preloaded CDDB info. Finally, with an adapter from Pioneer, an iPod can be hooked up to the unit, and full control will be transferred to its interface.

Kenwood med USB-inngang i front....

The KDC-MP832U plays MP3s, WMAs, and AACs from CD-R/RWs, of course, but goes a step further by offering a USB port. The unit can use USB thumbdrives as a music source, offering full navigation of files by artist, album, song, and genre. Its voice-indexing feature can audibly announce any ID3 tag information, letting drivers keep their eyes on the road when browsing through music.

JVC med USB i front....

Recognizing that USB thumbdrives have become nearly universal, JVC added USB ports to the faceplates of a number of its 2006 line of car stereo head units. One example on display at CES is the KD-SH1000, a single-DIN CD receiver with a USB port in the right side of the interface, letting you easily plug in a drive full of music. The unit will play MP3- and WMA-format files off of the drive. The KD-SH1000 also accepts SD cards, which have the advantage of not protruding from their slots, unlike a USB drive. It accepts burned CD-R/RWs and displays graphics with its dot-matrix fluorescent screen.
