98 Oktan og justert tenning 3SGE
Legg innLagt inn:22 apr 2003 15:05
Har begynt å kjøre 3SGE`n på 98 Oktan og skal justere tenninga fra 10* til f.eks 12* eller høyere ?
?
Noen som har gjort dette her ? Noen merkbar forskjell..

Wanted to advance the timing...

I put my car in for a service with Toyota today and asked them to advance the timing. Since I don't have a timing light it saves me buying one and the labour costs would probably be the same as buying a timing light.
Anyway they said there is no need to advance the timing pass 10 degrees since the engine's knock sensor will retard the timing back too 10 degrees if advanced past that.
So is it worth advancing the timing anyway myself? I've heard people still get gains out of this dispite the engine tring to retard it back to standard timing.
Do I need to change the engine management system to get any true gains off advancing the timing?
I'm running 98 octane fuel and the car is a 91 N/A 3SGE so I believe the car can handle about 13-15 degrees without crappy idling and/or pining.

I advanced my timing over a year ago and it did not reset back to 10. As far as I know the ECU will only retard timing if a knock is detected. After a while it would set it back to "normal", which would still be advanced from the distributor's position being changed.

I realise I won't gain all that much off advancing the timing, maybe about 5-6hp @ the wheels I'm guessing and a small increase in torque. It's better than nothing I guess and since I don't have much cash on my atm I can't think of anything else to do...
I put a K&N air filter in the stock box (can't have an open intake otherwise you will get defected in Australia)
Tror nok ikke det blir 5-6 HK på hjula av dette da men.. litt her og litt der
